2020 Hindsight
2020 changed the landscape for everyone and the Revenge Porn Helpline has been no exception. Within weeks of the first lockdown, domestic abuse services across the country (and the world) were seeing a huge spike in cases; for us, April 2020 saw a doubling in case numbers. And it’s a trend that didn’t, and hasn’t, stopped.

We always welcome research here – we know that intimate image abuse is very understudied which can leave a lot of the victims feeling overlook and undervalued. This also means for us as a service, we can sometimes not show how much this horrible crime impacts the victims involved – we have our own report on this soon too. How do I know if my content is private and sexual?
We know we use “intimate” in our terminology and the term is in itself very subjective in nature; what may be considered intimate and harmful to one, may not be to another. For us though, we are bound by the UK law - this is that the image needs to be “private” and “sexual”.
